Nationwide Extends Airport-Diorama Media Buy on the Strength of Dynamic-Image Lenticulars

While most airport ad campaigns survive only three months before the creative images are pulled from display dioramas within terminals, the resounding reception of the "Life Comes at You Fast" campaign sponsored by Nationwide, one of the largest insurance and financial services companies in the world, has prompted the extension of their airport media buy a full five months longer; concluding its eight month run as of December 31, 2004.In recognition of this success, JCDecaux, the world's largest owner of airport dioramas, recently presented its "Best of Airports" award to TM Advertising, LP for the most creative use of out-of-home advertising for the year 2004. TM?one of the largest agency resources in the United States?developed several executions for the print side of this campaign, the most talked about being an image of an innocent young kindergartner in pigtails instantly blossoming into a precocious junior-high student defiantly showing off a bare midriff and makeup."We are really pleased with the Lenticular campaign from Nationwide as it's literally stopping passengers in their tracks and brings a new level of excitement to the airport diorama," says Robert P. Cilia, Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing at JCDecaux North AmericaThe use of Hawthorne, California-based Dynamic Image (www.dynamicimages.com) lenticulars received credit for their ability to actively portray both "present" and "future" states?based upon the viewing angle?within the space of one airport diorama.
These high-end images use a patented photographic process purchased from Eastman Kodak, and have little in common with the quaint lenticular of yesteryear, such as tiny Cracker Jack prizes and smiley-face bike stickers.
"Because the 'Life Comes at You Fast' campaign has a conceptual 'before and after' component to it?that's what life stages are about, anyway?our decision to use Dynamic Images lenticulars was not just based on employing a novel printing technique, but it was the perfect vehicle for expressing this concept,'" says Malcolm Mace, Executive Vice President and Group Account Director for TM Advertising."Originally, TM was considering electronic media to create the transformation, but given the tight deadlines, there wasn't enough time to get the message out electronically?it's very expensive too," points out Song Heo, head of the trafficking and production at EMC, a Newtown Square, Pennsylvania-based agency specializing in out-of-home media buys.

"But with lenticulars you could use a standard size that fits in a standard airport diorama, and get the idea of transformation across at less expense.
Dynamic Images stood up and said, 'We'll do it.'
Everybody put their hands together and we met the deadline."In all, EMC placed 99 Dynamic Image (www.dynamicimages.com) lenticulars in standard backlit dioramas leased by JCDecaux at selected airports in Birmingham, Cleveland, Orlando, Pittsburgh.
Airports in Cincinnati, Greensboro, Phoenix, Portland, Providence and Winston-Salem also featured some of the images."We've gotten amazing feedback from everyone in the field and internally: our salespeople, the board of directors," says Nationwide's Schreibman.
"They are all very happy about the campaign.""The Nationwide 'Life Comes at You Fast' campaign will likely be renewed in 2005," predicts TM's Mace.
"We're in media planning stages right now and we've made a recommendation to continue using the Dynamic Images and the client is very interested in doing that.".

So what is Gesture?
Some people define gesture as action.
I think that it is action and a little more.
It is the energy or life force of the character or person you are drawing.
Essentially, it is the personality and make-up of the subject you are drawing.
This helps us get the definition life drawing.

It is exactly that!
Everything and everyone has a gesture.
Even a rock.
The people in our drawings should appear as though they are living and breathing through our drawing.
Hence, I talk about making the human form come alive a lot.
Gesture is what breathes life into our drawing.

Your art will start to take on a deeper level.

When we are gesture drawing, we are looking to do more than merely copy what we are seeing.
We are looking to capture the essence of our subject.
We are literally breathing life into our drawing. Great Gesture Drawing in Minutes, Breathe Life into Your Drawings
